English I Syllabus

Mr. Hansen

Students will:

-Know the eight parts of speech and is able to use them in examples.

-Know how to use the library and reference materials for assignments.

-Increase their vocabulary and use it in examples and writing.

-Improve their study skills.

-Read a variety of literature and be able to critically evaluate and write a proper and correct response.

Requirements:

-Class attendance is imperative!  See me BEFORE you leave if you know about the absence (field trips, doctor appointments, and athletic events).  If you are sick, see me the day you return to class.  It is YOUR responsibility to make up work.

-Participation in class is important to the learning process.  It is the best way for you to learn and it tells me how much you know. 

-Keep a notebook and bring it to class EACH DAY!  Also, bring a pen or pencil because I will NOT provide any.  I will accept ONLY loose-leaf paper or notebook paper without the fringe for assignments.  Anything else will result in a grade reduction on the assignment.  Some assignments will be typed and you will be notified of these in advance.

-Books MUST be covered at all times.  If covers are missing a demerit may be assess.

-Tardiness results in time after school and demerits.  Repeated tardiness will result in detentions.  Trips to lockers for forgotten materials also will result in time after school.

-All students must supply a computer floppy disk.
