Textiles, Clothing and Design Expectations
General Course Description:
The semester is divided into
two main parts. The first, weeks 1-4,
consists of group instruction and basic skill development. The assignments and tasks during this phase constitute
approximately 10% of your semester grade.
The remainder of the semester, weeks 5-18, is very individualized. During this phase, you must manage your time
to earn up to 900 possible points through your text work and sewing
projects. The second part makes up approximately
70% of your semester grade while the remaining 20%, comes from your
comprehensive final exam.
Behavior:
To be successful in this
class you will need to be cooperative, self-motivated, have good time
management skills, and generally have a positive attitude. Anything less is a recipe for disaster! Other classroom expectations include:
Supplies:
You are expected to come
prepared to class each day! You will
need to bring the following supplies with you during Part One of our semester:

Pen or pencil
2.
Folder for
handouts and assignments
3.
Paper to take
notes and complete assignments
4.
Textbook
You will be expected to
purchase and provide basic sewing supplies by:______________
Basic Sewing Supplies Needed:
-washable fabric marking pen
-hand sewing needles
-seam ripper
-measuring tape
-sewing shears
-pins and storage container or cushion
-plastic
bobbins
-2 small spools of thread (one light and one dark). These need not be new spools!
During Part Two of our
semester you will need to purchase and provide all materials and notions needed to complete your sewing projects.
Assignments:
It is your responsibility to
keep up in class and complete assignments on time! You cannot fully profit from the activities
we are doing during Part One of our semester if you are working on past
ones. You will also quickly get behind
during Part Two if you do not pace yourself correctly!
Point Break Down For Part
Two:
Daily Participation = 2 point
daily for being on task = 180 possible
Individualized Text Study =
nine text chapters at 30 points each = 270 possible
Sewing Projects = earn up to
450 possible

completed in advance, but to be on time, must be turned in at the start of the
class period indicated. If they are
turned in late, they will be penalized 25% per school day and will not be
accepted more than three days late.
*You are encouraged to
complete the text study outside of class to allow for more sewing time and
teacher guidance.

evaluated using a rubric for quality completion.
*You will be encouraged to
complete increasingly difficult sewing projects as the semester progresses. You
should have at least one done by the end of the 1st quarter of
class, a 2nd completed by the second progress report due date, and a
third prior to the end of the semester.
