Father Morin opened the meeting with a prayer.
Self introductions were made along with committee assignments.
Finance: Jolene Ritzman will not longer be able to serve on the board.
Mary Hugo
will serve as treasurer. No finance report was given at this time.
Membership: MaryBeth McWilliams reported on several topics concerning
recruitment. 9th grade orientation mainly created more awareness of the
club and also added a few new memberships. A mailing was sent to Pius
alumni. The club was unable to do a corporate drive this year for Booster
memberships. Scott Fitzgerald reiterated the importance of reaching the
corporate sponsors in the future. Some past figures on membership include:
2004-2005 --- 270 members - $6700
2005-2006 -- 272 members - $16,000
The increase in monies taken in were due to the different levels of membership
available last year. ¼ of the Pius families were members.
MaryBeth asked for help in soliciting memberships at the Fall Kickoff
(August 25) and Pius Open House. (August 28)
Gold Member gifts were discussed along with program deadlines. Program
photos will be handled by Mrs. Amy Shonka.
Committee Building: David McWilliams reported that June 28, 2007 will
be the date of the next Pius Golf Scramble. 12-16 people are needed to
be on the golf committee for next year. There will be a sign up sheet
at the Fall Kickoff. Plans are to meet this fall and to break the Scramble
into three sub-committees. George O’Boyle suggested that ex-Pius
golfers could be involved in the committee. Great idea, George.
The Coaches and Activity Chair cookout was put on hold for the time.
Different ideas were passed around concerning activities for community
building. Some of these ideas include hosting a track meet and tailgating
before football games. Father Morin discussed the need for developing
a better relationship with Omaha Skutt. We would like to invite them to
a pre-game dinner in December when Pius plays Skutt in Boys basketball.
Another possible date would be in February when Pius girls meet Skutt.
Concessions: Lisa Cunningham reported that there is a good number of members
on the concessions committee. They still need someone to do the scheduling
for winter sports. Diane Hilger has offered her assistance in showing
members how to accomplish the task. Concession committee members will
meet as a group next Monday. There are questions concerning set up for
basketball games. Father Morin will check on concerns about exits because
of building construction. Barry Johnson brought up the idea of having
a separate concession area to sell drinks.
Merchandise:. Merchandise will be sold at Fall Kickoff and Open House.
Project Update and Cost: Rod Berens reported that the waterproofing of
the stadium came in under $3500. Approximately 38,000 was spent on the
project. It should last 3-5 years. An engineering quote was given on inspecting
the whole facility each year. The price was $2400 with and increase of
3% each year. Discussion centered on how often and to what extent we want
to inspect the stadium.
Joann Grosserode reported that the Pius track is now open. United Sports
rules are posted and three more signs are still to be put up. The rules
are still not being respected and followed by users of the track. Joann
spoke of the weed problem in the outer lane. There needs to be an 18 inch
buffer of pea gravel placed next to the outer lane. Covers are still needed
for the pits. Estimates are pending. Coach Aylward would like to have
mats for his football players to walk on when crossing the track.
Dan Muhleisen has the exact figures of the track costs. It is approximately
$178,000.
Stadium storage will be completed by the Green & Gold game. Four new
garage doors were purchased for $10,000. Locks will be placed on all the
doors.
Safety issues were brought up about the back of the west stadium. The
stadium is filled with an excessive amount of stuff that creates a hazard.
It was suggested the area be roped off.
The gym floors are done and look GREAT!!! Lines are now painted for volleyball
use.
Ideas for future capital improvements included additional bleachers/bathrooms
on the visitors’ side of the stadium and correction of erosion on
the northern side of the visitors’ bleachers.
Used wrestling mats from the state tournament could be a possibility to
purchase a mat for the wrestling program. The cost of a mat would be approximately
$5,000.
Jake Moore will get information on purchasing new standards for the volleyball
nets.
Molly Peters, Vocal music director requested $2,010 for the purchase
of 120 garment bags to be used for Spectrum Singer uniforms. MaryBeth
McWilliams motioned the Booster Club meet this request and Greg Gibney
seconded the motion. The motion was passed.
Student /Family activity passes were discussed. MaryBeth gave members
information about other schools and their activity passes. The main focus
of the pass is to encourage students to attend more events and activities.
The Booster Club members want to see what the financial impact would be
if Pius adopts an activity pass before making a decision.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 11, 2006 (let us
never forget…9/11)
The meeting was ended with a prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce Gibney
