Pius X Booster Club Minutes
October 16, 2006

Members Present: Father Morin, Scott Fitzgerald, Duane & Mary Hugo, Barry Johnson, George O’Boyle, MaryBeth McWilliams, Leighton & Julie Larson, Loren Kanost, Rod Berens, Greg & Joyce Gibney

Father Morin opened with a prayer.
Self introductions were made and the September minutes were approved

Finance: Mary Hugo reported that the Booster Club had a balance of $121,000 in our account. The budget for 2005 was reviewed and reconciled. Scott congratulated Mary on her hard work and efforts. Thank you, Mary!

Membership:
LCD ads: Requests for these ads go directly to Sandy Hartman in the office. A few “in-kind” ads were added. It was noted that the ads should probably rotate faster than every 2 to 3 minutes as they presently do. A suggestion was made to ask Annette Westkamp in changing the timing of these ads. Adding photos of recent Booster Club activities to the LCD board would add interest and benefit the club.

Recruitment and Membership numbers: The number of programs for the Fall sports was reduced from last year (5,000) to this year (3,000). New Winter programs will tentatively be done by November 8th.
Barry Johnson planned to meet after the Board meeting with anyone interested in pursuing Winter and Spring sports recruitment.
Currently, there are 280 BC members: 10 gold, 72 white and 198 green. The total financial intake is not available at this time.
Gold members will receive their complimentary copy of “Fifty Years of Thunderbolt History” when it arrives from the printer. Each copy will be signed by prestigious dignitaries from the Pius athletic department.

Community Building: A meeting was held with the Thunderbolt Scramble committee.
The Scramble will take place June 28, 2007. The financial goal for next year is to double the profit from last year.
Finding a Cookout Date has been difficult at this time. This will be put on hold until a future time.
A Track Meet is still being looked at for March of 2007. This is a big project which would require a great number of volunteers. We are also looking at the possibility of holding a soccer meet the following year.
We would like to continue to get the message out to all clubs and activities that the Booster Club is willing to help with financial needs.

Concessions: New Booster Club members will be included in the winter sports concession schedule.

Merchandise Sales: Merchandise is continuing to sell well. It was suggested that a group of individuals could help Jolene in selecting merchandise for next year.

Project Update: Rod Berens stated that the stadium waterproofing was all done and no leaks have been noted. It was decided that an Engineering “minor walk through” would take place every year in the Spring. Some caulking would need to be done each year. We should devise a spreadsheet for future expenditures and to serve a reminder for maintenance issues.
A water leak in the football concession stand is causing problems at this time. This should be corrected soon.
Father Morin discussed future capital projects including new locker rooms. This would include renovating the two existing locker rooms and adding two more. This looks to be a project that is about 5 years away, however. We will also need to address the need of additional visitor seating for the football field.
New volleyball nets and standards were donated by Bison Company. A thank you or some type of recognition will be sent to the company.
Pius X 50th Homecoming was a success! The food tent was well received. George suggested that we rent a tent each year at Homecoming and use the same location. This location seemed to alleviate congestion at the gates. It also allowed our families ample room to enjoy the festivities.

New Business: The idea of using a single photography company for all team pictures was discussed. Champ Shots would give a percentage of the sales back to the school. Since some teams already have their own photographer, this could cause some problems. We will bring this up to the office personnel.

Grandmothers Restaurant is offering an “I’m With Pius” eating discount which would give Pius 20% of the amount spent on a meal. The Larsons will look into the details of the offer.

Old Business: Activity passes continued to be discussed in the meeting. There are two “Free Admission” volleyball games being offered to Pius students with ID. (Schuyler and Grand Island NW)

Father Morin closed the meeting with a prayer.
The next meeting will be Monday, November 13, 2006

Respectfully submitted,
Joyce Gibney
