September Minutes

Pius X Booster Club Minutes
September 11, 2006

Members Present: Father Morin, Scott Fitzgerald, Duane & Mary Hugo, Steve Milhouse John & Melinda Reinert, John & Joann Grosserode, Barry Johnson, George O’Boyle, Dave & MaryBeth McWilliams, Ron & Claire Schinkel, Loren & Cathy Kanost, Rod & Sherry Berens, Greg & Joyce Gibney

Father Morin opened the meeting with a prayer.
August minutes were corrected and approved.

Finance: Treasurer Mary Hugo reported a balance of approximately $108,000. Items are still pending.

Membership: MaryBeth McWilliams reported that we have the following Booster Club member numbers: 11 Gold, 71 Green, and 164 White. 10 of our members were attributed to the special alumni mailing that was sent. The alumni mailing carried a cost of $700 but it created good exposure for the club. We have taken in $17,015 in membership dues with a goal of $20,000-$25,000. Scott Fitzgerald reiterated the need to solicit business and corporate sponsors.

A suggestion was made to give Jim Hansen’s book “Fifty Years of Thunderbolt Tradition” to our Gold Club Members.
Loren Kanost stated that the web site is continually being developed. Additional pages that may be added include: Board Member contacts, List (Link) of Booster Club activities/sponsored events, and Booster Club merchandise that is for sale.

Community Building: Dave McWilliams reports that six more people have signed up for the Pius Golf Scramble committee. A meeting will be held in mid-October for committee members.
Cookout: Barry Johnson will meet with George O’Boyle about a possible date for the sponsor/coaches’ cookout.
Track Meet: John Grosserode said that Pius could possibly hold a dual or triangular track meet on March 21 or March 31. Planning is in progress.
Recognizing all activities: Additional monies may be available to pay for team& club requests. We will first need a sanctioned list of all NSAA sponsored activites.

Concessions: Overall, the concessions are working well. Scheduling still needs to be finished for winter sports. New construction is causing some minor problems with inside concessions. Members and concession volunteers are adapting to the temporary changes.

Merchandise: Georgia Miller is handling set up and getting volunteers to sell at games and school events.

Project Updates: The stadium waterproofing came in $4,500 under the original estimate of $42,500 according to Rod Berens. John Grosserode reported the track should be open from 8AM-6PM. Monday through Friday during the school year. There is still more to do in the storage areas. (50 years of treasures?!)
If Pius is reclassified into Class A in the future, we will need to build additional seating on the west side. Footings are already in the ground.

New Business: PIUS ROCKS!
A Lincoln individual has asked the Booster Club if we would be interested in selling engraved “Pius” rocks. A suggestion was made to perhaps offer one at Bolt. The Booster Club decided not to participate with the rock selling.

The Pius Credit Card program in cooperation with Union Bank has been suspended due to lack of interest and participation.

Old Business:
Activity passes: MaryBeth McWilliams met with others to come up with a proposal and survey. The survey will be given to parents as a way for us to see if there is an interest in using activity passes at Pius and what parents would be willing to pay. Once again, the focus of the activity passes is for convenience and to increase student attendance at school events.
However, we are not sure what financial impact this will have on the athletic funds. The athletic department depends on gate admissions. Gate admissions have been increased this year.
Approximate gate admission takes this past year were: Football (V&JV) $39,560
Boys BB $10,325
Girls BB $6,600
Wrestling $2,300
Additional discussion on this matter will take place at the next meeting.

The meeting was ended with a prayer.

Respectfully submitted,
Joyce Gibney
