Fall Play Preview with Abigail Horner

Abigail Horner, senior, plays a lead character – Maggie Cutler – in the Pius X Fall Play, "The Man Who Came to Dinner." She previously attended St. Peter's Catholic School.

On how she feels two days before opening night: A little nervous but I know it is getting to be very good. I see a lot of people honing in on this and putting all their work and talent into it and I’m getting really excited for it as well."

On the final preparations: "We have a couple of change. We recently added some props that were bigger than we thought they were so we have different entrances and exits."

Why people should attend the fall play: "I think they should watch it because it’s a strange and comedic heartfelt play. We have some strange hilarious moments, and then there are a couple parts where I end up almost crying. It’s a good script. I’ve read a lot of different scripts, and this is one of my favorites."

On playing her character: "I have adopted a little bit of Maggie, yes. One of the main things I have done is model it off of my personal experiences, or different characters. I stole a lot of my character from a character on 'The West Wing,' CJ Cregg."

On mental preparations for the shows: "A certain amount of anxiety is good. It kind of brings a little better focus, healthy fear. So that can be used to do your best and what you are trying to accomplish, but also limit it a bit. At this point of the year I try to eat a little better, and listen to some relaxing music during homework or whatever, and try to keep the stress level down a bit."

On what she hopes to accomplish: "Honestly, having a lead role in a play at Pius X has been a dream of mine since I was really, really little. In a way I’ve already had my goal, but now I want to set my goals even larger to give the audience that sense of accomplishment I felt, and just put on a good show form them overall. I like making people happy."
