Several Pius X students earned top honors at UNL Math Day earlier this month.

Eighteen students attended, and scores on the Probe 1 ranged from 33 to 77 (up from 8 to 68 two years ago), and half the team scored 50 or above (compared to just one student two years ago).  David (Minh) Huynh and Khang Tuy both scored a 77, placing them in a tie for 24th overall.  They went on to take the Probe 2 which is for the top 40 scorers.

A Pius X team won the Probe 1 competition for the third year in a row.  The top 5 students that contributed to this win were David Huynh (77), Khang Tuy (77), Thomas Kotopka (66), Lucas Huber (64), and Zach Kerkman (58).  The other students we took were Brandon Birch, Joe Vacek, Matthew Naumann, An Nguyen, Gregory Johnson, Crispin Corpuz, Minh Nguyen, Hoang Nguyen, Erin Kee, Andrew Kotopka, Grace Driewer, Thomas Butler and Campbell Mandery.

Pius X had several freshmen who scored in the upper 40’s and 50’s, as well.  Most of these students participated in Math Counts throughout middle school and the last several summers.

Students are now excited to practice for the quiz bowl during second semester.  After they finished the quiz-bowl, students walked around the campus looking at the various sculptures.
