Lincoln, the state capital of Nebraska, has an approximate population of 250,000. It is the home of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Union College, Southeast Community College, and several private, vocational-technical schools. The business of the city centers around government, education, insurance, banking, and light industry.

History of Pius X

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held on a 21.7 acre plot on October 23, 1955, for Pius X High School – a private, Catholic high school, to be owned and operated by the Lincoln Diocese. The school, originally built for 300 students, opened October 1, 1956, with 168 students in grades 10-12. Ninth grade students were not added until September of 1967.


Pius X School began the 2016-2017 school year with 1,284 students in grades 9-12. There are 90 administrators, instructors, and support staff employed at the school.

Courses and Programs

Pius X High School offers over 100 courses in 12 different departments. The Math, Science, English, and Social Studies departments offer a total of seven Advanced Placement or AP courses. There are college preparatory and vocational courses available at Pius X to meet the various needs of students.

ABLE (Acquiring and Building Learning Excellence)

The ABLE program assists students who struggle academically by providing support and learning strategies.

SCIP (School Community Intervention Program)

SCIP is an intervention program which identifies, educates and supports the individual student in regard to substance abuse and/or other personal needs.

Test Scores

Most students in Nebraska take the ACT for college admission. Ninety-five percent of the 2016 senior class took the ACT. The mean composite score for the 2016 Pius X senior class was 24.5; the mean English score was 24.7; Math was 23.7; Reading was 24.9; and Science was 24.1.

Official Transcript

An official Pius X transcript is a copy of the student’s confidential, cumulative scholarship record. The transcript carries the raised school seal along with the date of issuance and the signature of a school official. Authorized recipients of a transcript may not release any information unless they have obtained prior written consent of the parent or an 18 year old student.

Credits and Grading

Pius X uses a two semester system with courses being either one semester or two semesters in length. Students receive five credits for each course passed at the end of each semester. Each semester has approximately 90 school days. Days are divided into eight traditional periods that meet for 46 minutes each.
