Father Sarto was ordained a priest in 1858. He became Bishop of Mantua in 1884. Pope Leo XIII elevated him to Cardinal and appointed him Patriarch of Venice in 1893.

Cardinal Sarto was elected to be the Pope in 1903. He took seriously his motto: “To restore all things in Christ” (Eph. 1:10).

  • waged an unwavering war against the heresy and evils of Modernism.

His ardent love for the Blessed Sacrament was manifested in his encouragement of the frequent reception of Holy Communion and his decree allowing children to receive their first Communion at the age of reason. Saint Pius X is frequently called the “Pope of the Eucharist.”

Some of his accomplishments as Pope include:

  • gave great impetus to biblical studies,
  • brought about the codification of Canon Law.

He died on August 20, 1914. On June 3, 1951, he was beatified, and on May 29, 1954, he was canonized Saint Pius X. His feast day is August 21 every year.

On August 17, 1954 the title Pius X Central High School was unanimously accepted at a meeting. The first day of school was Oct. 1, when 165 students in grades 10 through 12 were enrolled.
