Tom Seib Scholarship

An award-winning educator, coach, and administrator, Tom Seib dedicated an extraordinary 46 years of service to Nebraska Catholic schools, including 36 years at Pius X High School. In 1974, Tom began serving the students of St. Joseph Junior High School in York, Nebraska as a Social Studies teacher and coach. Tom joined the faculty of Pius X High School in 1984, teaching Social Studies and English, and serving as Social Studies department chair, National Honor Society advisor, Student Council sponsor, and Model United Nations advisor, and as head coach for Boys Basketball, Tennis, and Golf. Tom received numerous honors recognizing his outstanding teaching and coaching. In 1992, Tom accepted a position as assistant principal while also continuing to mentor students as National Honor Society advisor and Advanced Placement program chair, as well as serving on city planning and state education standards committees.

Social Studies Class at Pius X Catholic High School

In 1997, Mr. Seib became the 10th principal of Pius X High School. During his tenure as the school’s lead academic administrator, Pius X milestones included reintroducing uniforms (1998), reaching enrollment of 1,000 students (2000-01 school year), building the new commons, creating the new library/media center, and adding a new science classroom wing (2006). Tom continued his active community involvement as North Central Accreditation chair, and represented private schools in Nebraska on the AdvancED/North Central State Committee (2001-2010), served on several Diocesan committees, and the Nebraska School Activities Association State Classification Committee (2002-2007). Tom chaired the Pius X Diversity Committee, and since 2001 has served as the AdvancED/North Central External Team chair. Tom returned to his love for classroom teaching in 2007, as Pius X Social Studies teacher and department chair. Continuing to serve as National Honor Society advisor, Mr. Seib also chaired the School Improvement Team Committee and the Professional Learning Committee, and served as coordinator for AdvancED Accreditation and for “Exploring the Holocaust and Social Justice” Nebraska teacher seminars (2011-2017), as board member and presenter for the Nebraska Holocaust Educators Consortium (2010-2019), and as commissioner on the Nebraska Professional Practices Commission since 2019.

Mentoring students as well as teachers – both within and beyond the classroom – through his service and leadership in Diocesan, city, state, and regional committees and consortiums, Tom has left an indelible legacy. Whether teaching about the Holocaust, advising National Honor Society students, or making school accreditation visits, Tom inspires others to give their best, while living his faith. The Tom Seib Scholarship will forever honor Tom’s dedicated commitment to Catholic education. The primary criteria for Tom’s scholarship is for a student to be involved in National Honor Society.
