Lincoln, Neb. – Advanced Practice Respiratory Therapist (CHI Health St. Elizabeth)
My husband and I are both respiratory therapists at CHI Health St. Elizabeth so we are both exposed to COVID-19 on a daily basis. We both work in the ICU and take care of the sickest patients in the hospital. Putting ourselves and our family of 6 at risk is scary, but we also have the knowledge and resources to protect ourselves as best we can. Hand washing and PPE provided by the hospital and generous donors of the community are keeping us aa safe as possible. These are definitely trying times but we have the benefit of working for a faith based hospital, where praying at the bedside with the patient is the norm. With the visitor restriction currently in place, we sadly have patients whose last dying moments are spent with staff they may have only known a few hours.
The ‘front lines’ of the COVID-19 pandemic impacted people near and far. Several Pius X alumni have cared for those impacted by the pandemic, some directly and some indirectly. This is just one of the stories of those alumni who were gracious enough to share their stories from April 2020. Please keep these and all workers in your prayers.
