Sister Mary Schroer, R.S.M. ’60 vocation story
After graduating from Pius in 1960, Mary moved to Omaha to enter the Order of the Sisters of Mercy – who had taught her in grade school at Blessed Sacrament School in Lincoln. NE.
In high school she continued to take piano lessons there from her inspiring piano instructor, Sister Mary Laurette, who prepared her to represent Pius X in the state music competitions. (Meanwhile, she was really inspiring her to answer God’s Call to become a Sister of Mercy.)
Her soul was eager to answer that Call, so after graduating from Pius, she moved to Omaha where our Mercy Regional Motherhouse was located – and Voila! Sister Mary Schroer, R.S.M. has now been a Sister of Mercy for sixty years, ministering in music. She is now a retired musician where she is still living with the Sisters of Mercy in Omaha.
