Jill Noel won her third-straight Class B state championship in Cross Country in 1982. Noel’s three championship runs came at the first three state cross country championships offered for girls.

Boys Cross County won the team title in 1982, their second in a three-peat.

In 1987, Girls Cross Country won their second-straight team title.

Twenty-five years ago, the Boys Tennis team won the Class B State Championship. Mike Matisons won the No. 1 Singles title, while Jeff Hruska and Nick Heiser were champions at No. 1 Doubles. Cory Linder and Toby Klussmann finished third at No. 2 Doubles, and Jason Dix finished fourth at No. 2 Singles. The team lost to Grand Island CC in the regular season, but beat them twice in head-to-head matches at state to win the team title.

In 1997, Pius X volleyball won matches against Omaha Gross, Blair and Aurora to win the Class B State Championship! It was the school’s second title, and it’s second straight title in what would become a three-peat the following season. Over a four-year stretch ending in 1999, the Thunderbolts went 113-21.

Pius X won the 1997 state football title, the first of back-to-back titles for the Bolts. The defense allowed just 21 points over five district and state matchups, with the offense averaging 46.2 points per game in that same stretch, downing Beatrice, Waverly, Gretna, Elkhorn and finally Lexington in the state title game. Twenty years ago in 2002, Pius X Softball won four straight state tournament games, allowing only 5 runs in those wins over Gering, Norris, Ralston and Beatrice for the first softball title in school history. Ten years later, Pius X was seeded fourth entering the state tournament, then rolled off wins over Blair, Skutt and Elkhorn twice to win the state title. The Bolts averaged 10 runs a game during that championship run.

Twenty years ago, the Girls Golf team won the Class A State title by 31 strokes, and Leigh Sutton won the individual title by eight strokes! It was the second title in what would become a three-peat. Sarah Gabelman finished eighth, Jenny Determan, ninth and Stephanie Sutton 15th.

Liz Lange won her second state championship in Cross Country in 2002.

The Cross Country teams won the boys and girls Class B titles in 2007.

The Girls Cross Country team had six runners in the top 30 overall: Katharine Lange, Erin Statz, Julie Ward, Mikayla Wagner, Jessica Hugo and Nancy Schueth.

The Boys Cross Country state runners included: Brandon Schlautman, Austin Wehrwein, Daniel Blake, Joseph Castillo, Benjamin Magstadt and Jim Morin.
