Pius X High School is excited to continue a long-standing tradition: the junior trip to Washington D.C.
Mr. Nolan DeWispelare, an English, journalism, and yearbook teacher at Pius X, is the trip leader for the third year, marking his sixth year participating in the trip. Mr. DeWispelare shared information with all junior history classes earlier this semester, but this announcement is a reminder for any parents, guardians, and students who may have missed the sign-up details.
Trip Details and Highlights
The trip is scheduled for Tuesday, June 1 to Friday, June 4. Please note this is one week later than the usual travel time. The group will depart on the morning of June 1.
The 4-day, 3-night trip to D.C. includes:
- Visits to many major monuments and museums.
- Excursions to Gettysburg and Arlington National Cemetery.
- A visit to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (the largest Catholic church in North America), and much more!
Logistics and Safety
Pius X is partnering with Nation’s Classroom for the tour, a company the school has worked with for over a decade. They are known for providing excellent experiences. The trip will include private tour guides to provide insights about the city’s monuments, memorials, and museums.
Safety is a priority:
- Hotel accommodations are secured in safe areas.
- Nation’s Classroom provides security personnel throughout the night.
- In addition to Mr. DeWispelare, the group will be chaperoned by other Pius X teachers and staff members.
The total cost of the trip is all-inclusive, covering flights, hotel, charter buses, admissions to all attractions, and all meals. The only additional costs for students would be for souvenirs or late-night food orders, though previous travelers have reported being well-fed by the tour company. Various payment options are available upon registration.
A $150 registration fee is required to reserve a student’s spot on the trip.
Registration Information
There is a limit of 96 spaces available for this trip. Once all spots are filled, a waitlist will be started. Students who know they want to attend are strongly advised to sign up now to secure their spot. Students should sign up even if their friends are undecided; many students form new, lasting friendships during this experience.
All registration is handled online through the Nation’s Classroom WEBSITE. More details are available in the attached trip information packet (the same packet distributed to students in history classes).
