About Pius X: Activities
Pius X High School Open House
Monday, February 3, 7 p.m., 6000 A Street, Lincoln, NE
Students at Pius X deliver impassioned speeches, share a story through song and dance, and grow as leaders through school activities. Others build robots to accomplish multiple tasks, lead their fellow students in school spirit, and entertain audiences with great theater.
More than 35 extracurricular activities and clubs offer ways for students of all interests to be involved. From the first trumpet to behind-the-scenes stage manager, the experiences are unique and varied, offering leadership activities, chess, art, science, math, history, cheer, mock trial, faith, and much more.
Student Council leads the annual blood drive and food drive competition, which Pius X has won since 2014. Our Academic Decathlon (AcaDeca) team competes across the state and nationally, earning 2nd place in state and 3rd place in the Online National Competition last year. This year’s Spring Musical is West Side Story, sure to entertain audiences young and old, and our award-winning vocal and instrumental music programs offer a wide variety of opportunities for students of every skill level; our Spectrum Varsity Show Choir has competed at a high level in the state, and the Marching Band earned Superior ratings in every competition this fall.
Thanks to the generosity of our Pius X family, resources for courses, activities, and clubs continue to grow. With the new Msgr. James D. Dawson Learning Center open, our music department has new ensemble spaces to practice in, and a new Chamber Orchestra strings program began this year to promote even more musical opportunities. Art students, who won top honors at the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards last fall, will now have three classrooms (Ceramics – including a new kiln area, Art Fundamentals, and Painting and Drawing).
Student life is further enriched by special events such as our bi-annual Madrigal Dinner, competitions such as the Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge, and visits from community professionals and nationally-recognized speakers.
We at Pius X believe being involved in school activities is a key component to growing as a person and in friendship with others.
