Newest HOF class includes 4 individuals, two teams

Pius X High School will induct four individuals and two teams into its Athletics Hall of Fame this year.

The induction ceremony will be this August at Pius X. The inductees include multi-sport athletes that left their mark for the Thunderbolts, earning titles and season honors.

1973-74 Boys Basketball

State Championship – First in school history. First State Championship in Boys Basketball.

Team finished with a 20-5 record following a 44-43 win over Lexington in the state finals.

1978 Boys Cross Country

State Championship – Runners included Jerry Spethman, Mark Cuddy, Shawn Kelly, Peter Morin and Fred Stuart. The team won every meet but one that season. Three All-City runners paced Pius X a state title, and Spethman was named honorary captain, and they were coached by George O’Boyle.

Gary Walker – Class of 1969

Basketball – Third leading career scorer and third leading scorer in a season in Pius X history; Highest scoring average in a single season in Pius X history

Baseball – Drafted by St. Louis Cardinals

Carmen (Easley) Sanchez – Class of 1992

Volleyball – Super State (1991), All State Captain (1991), All City (1991), All State (1990), All City (1990), Earned a full ride to Mississippi State University and earned four letters from 1992-1997.

Basketball – State Champion 1991 & 1992, 31st in Career Scoring. Played Division I basketball in 1993- 1994 making her a two sport division I athlete.

PJ Grosserode – Class of 1998

Football – 1997 State Championship

Track – State champion 200m, 400m, All Class champion 400m, Still holds state record for 400m,

USA track & Field All-American, 8x state medalist

Nick Heiser – Class of 2000

Tennis – Gold Medalist 1996 (1st Doubles) & 1997 (1st Doubles), 1996 Team Runner Up, 1997 Team State Championship

Football – 2 varsity letters, 1998 State Championship

Basketball – All City 2000 (Captain), 1st Team All State & Super State 2000, 13th All Time in points scored in a career, State Championship in 2000, 3-year letter winner, MVP of the 2000 state championship all-tournament team

Golf – 3 year letter winner
