Kearney to lead new youth athletics outreach program at Pius X

Pius X Catholic High School is launching a new Youth Athletics Outreach Program, and Ryan Kearney will step down from his head football coach position to be the program’s coordinator. In this newly created role, Kearney will continue to foster growth, leadership, and athletic development within the Thunderbolt community.

In addition to these new formative responsibilities, Coach Kearney will continue teaching at Pius X, bringing his dedication, energy and mentorship to both the classroom and the athletic programs. The school looks forward to his continued impact on students’ academic and athletic success for years to come.

Coach Kearney began coaching at Pius X in 2003 and has served as head coach since 2016, leading the program with integrity, faith, and dedication for more than two decades. During his tenure, he guided the Thunderbolts to the playoffs in eight seasons, a testament to his leadership and commitment to excellence. Under his direction, the program has developed both on and off the field, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, discipline, and character that has left a lasting impact on countless student-athletes.

In his new role as Youth Athletics Outreach Coordinator, Kearney will oversee and expand youth athletic programming for future Thunderbolts, working to strengthen relationships with local parishes, grade schools, and families. He will also serve as a liaison between Pius X High School and the Jr. Bolts Program, ensuring strong communication, alignment of goals, and a shared commitment to promoting skill development, sportsmanship, and faith-based community engagement among young athletes.

“I have been fortunate to serve the Pius X community for the past 22 years in my role as a teacher and coach, and value the relationships built with students, athletes, families, and coaches. I am excited to take those relationships, lessons, and growth forward as I continue to teach and step into a new role as Youth Sports Outreach Coordinator at Pius X. My family and I are excited about this new opportunity to have a great impact on both Pius X and the greater Catholic community in Lincoln.”
