Three Pius X students have been selected for the Nebraska All-State instrumental event, and one has been chosen as an alternate.
Senior Cate Barry (violin) has been chosen for Orchestra, and junior Brianna Krinke (saxophone) and sophomore Matthew Nguyen (clarinet) were chosen for the Concert Band. Junior Amelia Farber (French horn) made it as an alternate for the band.
Students in all schools across the state must audition for limited spots in the band and orchestra. Jared Wilhelm, Pius X instrumental music director, said having four students chosen is a big honor for the school, too.
The band will rehearse for three days on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, the host site of the 2022 NMEA Conference/Clinic. A final public concert will be held at 7:30 pm, Friday, Nov. 18, 7:30 p.m. at the Lied Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. Guest conductor for the group will be Dr. Cynthia Johnston Turner, Dean—Faculty of Music at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario.
