The Counseling Office has been a whirlwind of activity. We have completed our senior interviews and continue to plan for the rest of the school year. We have a couple of events that are coming up that I would like to highlight.
Our Apply to College Day, for seniors, will be held October 5 in the Pius X Library. If seniors have not, yet, applied to college, this is the day our school counselors have set aside to help students fill out applications to colleges. Many college representatives join us on this day so I encourage seniors to stop by the library from 8:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The PSAT if being offered to sophomores and juniors on October 16th at 7:30. This test is optional and is a great practice for the ACT and SAT. A short explanation of the test is that the PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test that 11th graders (and some 10th graders) take in October. Like the SAT, it measures the knowledge and skills in reading, writing, and math students learn in the classroom—the same knowledge and skills your child needs to succeed in college and career.
Following the PSAT, on October 16th, we will be welcoming our upcoming freshmen to our Club/Activities Expo around our track from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Here, our potential students will come and experience everything the Pius X family has to offer in the form of clubs and athletics. Students will have the opportunity to talk with current Pius X students to find out about how to get involved in school. We did this for the first time, last year, and found that families really liked the opportunity to be outside and meander from table to table to find out more about how to get involved. The Pius X Booster Club will be set up in the concession stand selling all things Pius X.
To round out the semester, juniors and their parents are invited to attend an informational meeting in the Commons on November 29th at 7 p.m. We will be going over all of the things they will need to remember as they gear up to be seniors. I promise….the presentation will not be more than an hour. The information shared will be valuable as we prepare for junior interviews in January.
Finally, the Counseling Center will hold a Scholarship Social in the St. Mother Teresa Room Nov. 30-Dec. 2. This will be a push to make scholarship information available to students so they can complete applications while on Christmas Break.
We do our best to keep everyone updated and looking toward the future. It may seem like there is a twisted path and we wonder how we can find our way. Let us remember the One who is with us always, holding us by the hand. Let us keep our focus on Him and we will find the correct path for us.
