Lincoln Pius X Catholic High School

James Kruml

Parents: Ron Kruml, Carla Kruml
School(s) attended K-8: St. Teresa’s
Favorite place on campus: Even though I always joked with my friends about living there most of the time the LPAC and band/choir room was always my home away from home. Whether I would be in there for band, or choir, or theater I always was doing something I truly loved and was willing to put my time into. The arts program will always be responsible for not only teaching me what it means to truly work but it also gave me an amazing plethora of new friends that helped me survive high school.
Activities at Pius X: I participated in the school musical for three years, fall play for two years, district one act one year, marching band all four years, Spectrum show choir two years and future author’s club one year.

What is/was your favorite class at Pius X, and why?

My favorite class would have to be Creative Writing with Mrs. Hays. As I have progressed through high school writing quickly became a major passion for me. I’ve always had a love for stories but Mrs. Hays was able to give me the tools to convey those stories in ways accessible to more people than just myself.

How has your faith impacted your education, or how has your education impacted your faith?

My faith will always be a major driving force in my life. Pius taught me through retreats and having a chapel open at most times of the day that Jesus takes me where I’m at even if I have a tendency to be hard on myself.

What are you most proud of about your time at Pius X?

The thing I’m most proud of about my time at Pius is learning about how important the little things are. Pius taught me that every day wouldn’t be this grand adventure but that didn’t mean I had an excuse to not give my all into what I was presented. Pius taught me that it was more important to stick to my beliefs and principles and remain sometimes a bit more in the shadows than risk giving up those principles for popularity or prowess.

Where are your plans after high school (college, military, job, etc.)? What do you plan to study?

Ever since I was little I dreamed of being a history/social studies teacher. To accomplish this I’m going to major in Secondary Education for Social Sciences and hope to find a high school teaching job someday. I have also considered pursuing a potential side career in writing but have not determined all the necessary steps to get there yet.
