Parents: Dan and Monica Oldenburg
School(s) attended K-8: St. John Neumann (Pueblo, CO)
Favorite place on campus: I enjoy being in the Chapel, especially when there is Adoration! The Chapel is always quiet, peaceful, and an excellent place to refocus. I also love to hang out in the library and on the swing by the LPAC.

What is/was your favorite class at Pius X, and why?

I have had so many fantastic classes! Freshman Biology with Ms. Shepherd (now Mrs. Steenson!) was a fascinating and engrossing class. I have loved both American Literature and AP Literature with Mrs. Jakub. Pre-Calculus was a fun class, as was AP Statistics. PACE, with Mr. Scheffler, was one of the best classes I think I have ever taken. The combination of Physics and Calculus was a great aid to mastering concepts, and Mr. Scheffler always had great demonstrations for the material we were covering. Theology III with Father Kennett was another favorite, partially because Father let us watch The Dark Knight and still gave it genuine relevance to our studies. My art classes, Drawing and Painting, have been incredible for my artistic development, and Mrs. Rodaway is wonderful about letting students be creative. Sotto Voce has been one of my favorite senior year classes, and I am grateful to have participated in that excellent group. Overall, I have had a fantastic set of classes in my four years at Pius.

How has your faith impacted your education, or how has your education impacted your faith?

My faith and my education have both grown together. Theology III was one of my favorite classes for many reasons, but mainly because it showed how to put the beliefs of our faith into practice. Fr. Kennett was also good about making sure his classes had time to pray as well as learn. Overall, Fr. Winter, Fr. Fleck, Fr. Kennett, and Fr. Freschol all helped me grow in the intellectual areas of my faith. Events like Restore have given me opportunities for spiritual growth. At Pius, it is refreshing to be able to mention the faith in class and know that everyone is on the same page. In summary, I have been quite grateful for the change to attend such a faithful Catholic school like Pius.

What are you most proud of about your time at Pius X?

I am most proud of the friends I have made. Coming from a small school in Colorado, I was intimidated by starting high school in a new state, especially a school as large as Pius! But thankfully, God blessed me with wonderful people. I have been privileged to have kept some close friends since freshman year, but have also met incredible people my last semester of senior year. I am very proud to have made friends with such amazing people. I am also proud of making the Acadeca Team, sticking with Swim Team for four years, and earning a spot in Sotto Voce.

Where are your plans after high school (college, military, job, etc.)? What do you plan to study?

I will be attending Hillsdale College in the fall to study Physics and Chemistry. I hope to go to graduate school for Nuclear Physics and work on improving cosmic radiation shielding for long-term spaceflight. As we begin to venture to Mars and beyond, protecting astronauts from the radiation of space will be crucial, and I hope to play my part in this grand saga.
