After multiple days of auditioning, Pius Players now have a cast for the fall play, “Mind Over Manor” by Loretta Willoughby.
Willoughby’s modern comedy contains many eccentric characters and will bring a different type of humor to the LPAC this fall.
Senior Emma Cassidy said, “The plays in the past, even if they were comedies, had a certain type of humor that wouldn’t really resonate with crowds. It took a while to get the jokes. I think people will enjoy the one liners and jokes in this play.”
However, the road towards opening night will look different from years’ past.
Director Brian Carlson, new to Pius X this year, faced many different challenges when it came to casting the fall play with a group of students he had not previously met.
“I had more people try out than what I was told and that created a lot more scrambling, especially when evaluating 58 people,” Carlson said. “The biggest challenge is finding opportunities to get everyone involved. It was difficult to have to make cuts and selections for the cast.”
New procedures have been added to this year’s fall play as directors and students have had to adjust due to the pandemic.
“We actually double casted for the play. We wanted to make sure that if there were any issues with quarantine or people getting sick, we have understudies for each role. The understudy group will also be doing one show on their own, as well,” Carlson explained.
Senior Sophi Throener Rodriguez said, “At first I was really afraid we would have to act in masks. It’s just so hard to see facial expressions, and that’s so important on stage. Thankfully, we were able to take them off for auditions with proper social distancing in place, and we don’t plan to use them while on stage.”
Opening night will be Thursday, October 22 at 7:00 pm in the LPAC. The show is scheduled to run through Sunday, October 25.
