Students in Advanced Placement (AP) Literature had their final Socratic seminar on Friday, May 14.
The story selected was “Parker’s Back” by Flannery O’Connor.
For students it was a great way to end the year.
“AP Literature was a great class, and I am thankful to have had Mrs. Jakub as a teacher,” Senior Jesse Adame.
In first period AP Literature, each student picked out a donut brought by senior Maddie Ames and sat in a circle going back and forth over central themes of the story.
“The story we read was really interesting and fun to analyze,” senior Claire Sobanksy said. “I enjoyed going over different themes and ideas with my classmates.”
The students enjoyed having one last seminar before the end of the year, and it gave them a chance to read an author the class really enjoys.
“We all know Mrs. Jakub loves Flannery O’Connor so it wasn’t a surprise that we read a story by her,” Senior Colleen O’Gara said. “Since O’Connor was a devout Catholic it is interesting to read her stories and find religious symbols and themes.”
