The Pius X guidance office is hosting their annual Scholarship Social event December 3-5.
Each day, seniors can go down to the Mother Teresa Conference Room and learn information about scholarships they’re eligible for, how to apply for them, and enter their names for prizes.
Senior Han Tran attended the social during her off period on Tuesday. Tran found out about the event through announcements over the school intercom and through the school website.
“I thought that [the event] was a good opportunity to ask questions and get more information about scholarships,” Tran said.
Guidance Director Jan Frayser started the event six years ago.
“I feel like kids are very busy and don’t take the time to actually think about scholarships. Then the year slips by them, and as seniors, they already have so much to do,” Frayser said. “I thought if we could incentivize them to come down and spend a little time on scholarships, it at least gets them started.”
Senior Abbie Russman attended the event during her Tuesday morning off period.
Russman said, “I think it’s important to have opportunities like this for seniors to remind them about the opportunities the guidance office offers to aid with stress surrounding the college/scholarship application process.”
According to Frayser, the majority of the senior class will attend the event over the course of the three days it takes place, judging from past years.
Frayser said, “The major point of this event is that kids begin to see where they can go to find scholarship applications, try a few, get going, and then believe that it is possible for them to achieve.”
