The Pius X Speech Team competed at the NSAA District A-2 and had students qualify to compete in State Speech on Saturday, March 6.
Seniors Rose Jaros, Kathleen Nguyen, Trang Tran, Joey Welty, and Sophie Wyvill all qualified to compete at State on March 20.
Nguyen qualified in two categories, Informative and Program Oral Interpretation. As a senior, she said this was a great moment.
“I have never qualified for State before, and as a senior, I really wanted to,” Nguyen explained. “I was so happy when I learned the results and now I just need to focus on State.”
Now, as she not only prepares for State speech but for Nationals she said she’ll continue to focus on her perfecting little details.
Jaros also qualified for State speech in the persuasive category.
Before competing at districts, she said was nervous but knew that she had practiced a lot prior to the competition so she felt prepared.
“When I qualified for State it felt amazing because it felt like my hard work was paying off,” Jaros said.
Last year, districts and state speech were canceled due to COVID-19, so Jaros said she was happy she got the chance to finish a season on a high note.
As she prepares for State speech her goal is to practice as much as she can and to keep her nerves at bay.
