Vaccination requirements could impact students attending March for Life

Vaccination requirements in Washington D.C. may create restrictions for the annual March for Life.

Students from Pius X plan to leave for Washington D.C. on Jan. 18 for the March for Life for the first time in two years. However, tighter restrictions may make things different for students this year.

Muriel Bowser, the mayor of Washington D.C., released a statement on Dec. 22, stating that certain establishments would require proof of vaccination for entry starting Jan. 15, most notably restaurants and hotel common areas.

Jeff Schinstock, the director of youth and young adult ministry for the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln, said he will “not be mandating a vaccination.”

Vaccination requirements for some monuments are unclear.

“It is unclear whether the mandate will have an effect on indoor sites such as the National Holocaust Museum, the Smithsonian Museums or the National Archives. I am working on getting that information,” Schinstock said in his email to students going on the March.

Students for Life of America, a major endorser of the March, made a post on Instagram stating their opposition to the mandates.

“The mayor of Washington, D.C. is doing everything possible to make the pro-life movement cancel our events surrounding the 49th, and, possibly last, anniversary of Roe v. Wade. WE WILL NOT be cancelling because LIFE is too important,” they said in the caption of their post.

They will also be hosting rapid COVID testing at the site of the March for anyone who would like one.
