Bolts Roll Bunnies to Advance to Semis

Story by Cayden Mitchell

Thursday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena, the Pius X girls basketball team played the Omaha Benson Bunnies in the first round of the Class A state tournament.

“State is nerve-wracking when you first get out there under the lights, but once you get the rhythm you forget about it and play the game,” senior Clare Lewandowski said.

Under those lights, the Bolts held a steady lead over the Bunnies for the first two quarters of the game.

“We could keep the lead because we played really good defense, played our gaps well, played as a team and shared the ball well,” Lewandowski said.

Pius X kept a nearly 20 point lead for the rest of the game, winning the game 55-36 and advancing to the semifinals at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

“Getting in the right mindset and staying focused is key for us,” junior Adila Hamdan said. “We’ve been preparing for a long time so we are ready.”

The Bolts play Millard North in the second semifinal game at 8:45 pm and if they win they will be competing against Lincoln East or Lincoln Southwest on Saturday for the Class A State Championship.
