Despite track season being cancelled, Kate Campos continues to train

Freshman Kate Campos has been doing for track for 3 years. In three years, Campos has competed in many meets and has won regionals 3 years in a row. Campos has also placed 2nd in regionals at USA Track & Field.

Campos was planning on competing in the 400, 200, 100, and 100 hurdles for Pius X track this season.

On March 14, Pius X track was cancelled for the season.

Campos said, “I was disappointed with track getting cancelled because it was what I have been training for since October and I was looking forward to a successful track season.”

Freshman Sarah Sindelar was planning on competing in long jump for Pius X track.

She said, “I was getting into a routine with going to track every day and was preparing for track season. It was definitely disappointing not to have that any more.”

Sindelar has known Campos for 11 years starting from doing gymnastics together.

Sindelar said, “Since knowing Kate from gymnastics, I have seen her grow because I’ve seen her working hard and her realizing this is what she wanted and driven with a passion to better herself.”

Campos also runs for Lincoln community track club. Campos’ season for Lincoln community track was canceled for the summer.

Even though both high school and club seasons were cancelled, Campos is still training this summer.

Campos said, “I am still training because I love the sport and want to reach my full potential.”
