Eleven student-athletes commit to college athletics

On National Signing Day, several Pius X students decided where they are going to continue their career beyond the halls of Pius X.

Senior softball player Matti Reiling committed to Iowa West Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa to further her softball career.

“One of the main reasons I committed was because they just built a brand new softball facility that looks absolutely gorgeous,” Reiling said.

Reiling does have other plans beyond Iowa West Community College.

“Junior colleges are built for you to develop your ability to eventually continue on to bigger school. My coach has said his main goal is to make me a great enough player to send me to play in Division I or II,” Reiling said.

Senior swimmer Kara Owens committed to the University of South Dakota for swimming as she looks to continue her athletic and academic career.

Owens plans to study elementary education at South Dakota University. She spoke out about what the school has that appeals to her liking.

“What really was the magnet for me to go to USD was the entire team atmosphere and campus size,” Ownes said. “I remember thinking that this was exactly what I was looking for in a college. And I believed that this was going to be the place for me.”

Owens also believes that South Dakota coaches will help her further her abilities.

“I know that the coaches will be there to make me better. I know that they want me to succeed as much as I want to see myself succeed. They are there to help my teammates and me,” Owens said.
