Girls golf adjusts to Covid-19 rules, finishes 2nd at invite

Pius X hosted the girls golf shootout at Woodland Hills golf course on September 1.

This was the first meet most of the Pius X girls had under the new Covid-19 guidelines.

“It changed because we have to be socially distanced between each hole and we can’t be as close to our teammates as before,” sophomore Cece Ulrich said.

Masks were not required while actually golfing, but social distancing was enforced.

“It seemed the same to me. I feel like it is the same except we have to wear masks inside and when we are not golfing,” sophomore Audrey Larsen said.

Senior Julia Castle has already played in a few tournaments this season and has had time to get used to the new rules.

“At first it was pretty hard to adjust to it, but now it’s to a point where I don’t even realize I have my mask on when I’m teeing off. The biggest change I think would probably be having to wear a mask to warm-up on the putting green,” Castle said.

Pius X varsity finished in second place, despite the new Covid-19 rules. Sophomore Nicole Kolbas took first individually with a 67.
