In September 2020, Lincoln Police Officer Mario Herrera was laid to rest after being killed in the line of duty. As a parent of Pius X alumni and a current student, a supporter of the Thunderbolts, and a protector of our city, Herrera had a big impact on many in our community.

Thanks to generous benefactors and family friends who wished to honor the memory of Officer Herrera, a new scholarship was established this week that will forever benefit students.

The Mario Herrera Memorial Scholarship has been funded to the amount of $25,000 by Tim and Linda Aschoff, Ryan & Shelly Theil, and the Kidwell family. The scholarship will be awarded to a Pius X student who is the child of a police officer, first responder, or military service member and the annual distribution will be $1,205 – Officer Herrera’s badge number.
