A new fund called the “St. Cecilia Endowment for the Arts” has been established by Dave and Bernice Mettenbrink to provide on-going support for the new performing arts theater.
The York couple firmly believes that participation in the performing arts leads to greater success in the classroom.
It was in 2017 when the Mettenbrinks attended their first concert in the LPAC. That’s when they discovered that Pius X has a superior music program. They became interested in this year’s campaign for a new theater knowing that students will soon have a superior performing arts venue that matches their superior talents.
Since the new theater will be “new” for only a brief time it was the Mettenbrink’s desire to establish an endowment to help provide on-going care. That was done with their $100,000 donation.
The Mettenbrinks weren’t interested in having their name attached to the endowment fund, so Executive Director Courtney Johnson suggested they consider naming it after a saint.
They decided nothing is more appropriate than naming it after St. Cecilia, the patron of music and musicians, who is known for singing to the Lord in her heart.
