Abby (Burt) Fox ’12 named head volleyball coach

Pius X Catholic High School is proud to announce the hiring of Abby (Burt) Fox ’12, a member of St. Joseph Parish, as the new Head Volleyball Coach, bringing a proven track record of program-building, competitive success, and athlete development to the Thunderbolts volleyball program.

Fox joins Pius X with extensive high school and club coaching experience, most recently serving as Head Varsity Volleyball Coach at Lincoln Southeast High School. During the 2024 season, she led the program to its first state tournament appearance in eight years and produced the school’s first winning season in six years, while overseeing a complete restructuring of the volleyball program at all four levels.

“I am incredibly thankful for my time and the administration at Lincoln Southeast,” said Fox. “Coming home to Pius X is a tremendous blessing for me and my family. I am honored to be given this opportunity. My goal for the Pius X Volleyball Program is to build a culture rooted in faith, accountability, and competitive excellence while developing student-athletes on and off the court.”

At Southeast, Fox managed a staff of seven coaches, implemented comprehensive training and weight programs, strengthened team culture through role definition and goal setting, and collaborated closely with administration and booster leadership to improve scheduling, equipment, and budgeting.

In addition to head coaching experience, Fox has served in multiple roles within Southeast’s volleyball program since 2019, including Freshman Coach, Junior Varsity Head Coach, and Varsity Volunteer Assistant. During that time, she helped develop City Championship teams, led summer camps and tryouts, designed practice plans, and maintained detailed match statistics.

Fox is also deeply rooted in the volleyball community, having previously served as Head Coach for Nebraska Juniors Volleyball Club, specializing in the 16s–18s age groups and leading coach development initiatives across the program.

Notably, this marks a return to familiar ground for Fox, who previously coached Junior Varsity Volleyball at Pius X Catholic High School, guiding the team to an outstanding 31–2 record while instilling discipline and a strong learning culture. Fox is also a decorated Pius X alum, where she played varsity volleyball her junior and senior years—posting a 28–12 record and a 4th-place state finish as a junior in 2010, then a 38–3 record in 2011 and leading Pius X to its last state championship as a senior.

Athletic Director Trevor Johnson shared enthusiasm for the hire. “We are thrilled to welcome Coach Fox back as the leader of our volleyball program. As a Pius X volleyball alum, Abby understands the pride, expectations, and tradition that define this program. Her connection to Pius X and our faith community, combined with her record of program building and passion for the game, makes her the right person to continue building on the program’s legacy of success.”

Fox will begin leading the Thunderbolts immediately with a focus on competitive excellence, player development, and fostering a positive, faith-centered team culture.
