Friday served as a teacher work day, with an added training opportunity for school personnel.
Working with Lincoln Fire Rescue, and guided by School Nurse Holly Steinbach, school staff (who are on the Pius Medical Emergency Response Team) participated in a Cardiac Arrest Drill. Staff carried out various aspects of its procedures, and assisted until LFR responders arrived to begin their roles in the drill.
A post-drill session highlighted how drill participants should handle the technology, the school day routines, and the transition from school to rescue personnel. It also allowed the team to examine what could be adjusted to better help survival outcomes of anyone that has a sudden cardiac arrest.
This was the final step for Pius X High School to be become a “Heart Safe School” with Project Adam
