Lori Watson’s AP Environmental Science class took learning beyond the classroom with a field trip to a local hydroponic farm.
Avert Vertical Solutions, based in downtown Lincoln, supplies local restaurants such as Lazlo’s and FireWorks.
Students explored how plants can be grown without soil while conserving water and space, and learned how hydroponics supports sustainable food production. The hands-on experience brought concepts from class to life and gave students a firsthand look at innovative solutions shaping the future of agriculture.
Experiences like this also invite students to reflect on our call to be good stewards of God’s creation, using science and innovation to care for the earth and serve the needs of others. Through learning about sustainable food systems, students see how responsible environmental practices can support human dignity and the common good.
