1982 Girls Track Team

The 1982 Girls Track Team is being inducted into the 2025 Pius X Athletics Hall of Fame.

Each day as the team entered the locker room, their schedule awaiting them was a mile warm-up, six 100-yard strides, three 220’s, five more 100-yard strides, one 440, and a half mile cool-down. Yes, it was hard and brought moans and groans about the room, but it all paid off!

Representing the Pius X Girls’ Track Team at state was the mile relay consisting of Jill Noel, Laurie Nelsen, Mary Pat Sawdon and Jolene Trainor. These four girls who ran together well all season took second at state. Cheryl Fraas went to state in the 100 and 200 but was injured. Mary Pat Sawdon helped her team out by placing sixth in the 100; whereas Jill Noel again came through with the gold in the 800, 1600, and 3200, setting new Class B records in each. The 4 x 100 Meter Relay team of Mary Pat Sawdon, Laurie Nelson, Cheryl Fraas, and Nancy Strizek, placed third.

The season of hard work paid off with a first-place district title and first-time gold team medal at state.
