Students in speech class were challenged to create an 8-10 minute presentation for their final speech.
They got to choose what topic they wanted to write their speech on.
“It’s also kind of like your capstone, picking something that inspires you or something you’re interested in and getting to teach the class about that topic,” speech teacher Stephen Kurt said.
The speech helped the students combine the skills they had learned throughout the semester.
“They used reliable sources and all the techniques that we’ve learned thus far in order to create one solid presentation for the whole class,” Kurt said.
Sophomore Lauren Lempka presented on Taylor Swift. To prepare for her speech, Lempka made sure her research was thorough.
“I went really in-depth on all my research and used credible sources to make sure I was knowledgeable on all my subjects,” Lempka said.
Sophomore Ellie Andres chose to present on Yellowstone National Park. Andres was curious to see if it could be related to something she would want to pursue in college.
“I picked my topic off of something that would have been interesting to me to learn about in college, so maybe it will help me decide on a major,” Andres said.
There was a wide variety of topics taught. For most, their favorite part was getting to learn about random subjects that other students presented on.
“I’ve learned about a lot of different topics that I thought I would never learn about, including Mount Everest, Helen Keller, Anne Frank and Kanye West,” Kurt said.
