Girls soccer started their journey to go back to the finals for the third straight year, but this time hoping to come out of it with a championship.
The last two seasons the Bolts have come up one game short of winning it all. They fell to Lincoln Southwest and Gretna East in their last two seasons.
“Being a senior adds extra pressure because the last two years we didn’t come out on top like we wanted to, so this year being my last I want to make sure we come out on top,” senior Emily Krings said.
The Bolts came into the state tournament with only one loss on their resume and wanted to go one game at a time.
Junior Finley Kirk said, “We have to play for each other and focus on being in the moment rather than what’s ahead of us.”
The Bolts’ first round matchup against the Scotus Central Catholic Shamrocks was played on May 13.
The girls got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first half while Scotus would respond cutting the lead in half with a goal by senior Kayla Hoffman.
Before the half was over the Bolts would score two more goals to extend their lead to 4-1.
The scoring did not end there though, as the goals rained down in the second half.
The Bolts would win in dominant fashion 9-2 with a hat trick by sophomore Ava Kolm.
“The motivation to keep scoring goals was the thought that if we don’t win, this could be the last game for the seniors and we have our eyes set on the finals,” senior Abby Dickinson said.
The Elkhorn Antlers stand in their way on Saturday from a third straight championship game appearance.
Krings said, “Finishing as champions honestly shows that we can do anything we put our minds to, and if we keep working hard, we can accomplish all of our goals.”
