Gary Leroy Hendricks was born in 1948, and married Florence (Flo) Ridder Hendricks November 22, 1969 at St Boniface Catholic Church Monterey, West Point Nebraska. He received his education at Holy Family grade school, Pius X High School and the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Gary served as a principal at Chapman Nebraska and St Paul Catholic School in St Paul Nebraska, and after moving back to Lincoln with his family pursued management jobs including managing warehouses, Schuster’s grocery stores and a soil program he wrote and managed for Harris Laboratories. His concern for others was apparent when he volunteered at Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach, Clinic with a Heart and had a holy hour at St. Teresa church in Lincoln. Gary fought a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis and passed away August 28, 2019. His last gift was to be an organ donor.
Gary ’66 and two of his brothers Steven ’62 and William ’65; graduated from Pius X, where his four children; Kelly ’89, Joe ’91, Jamie ’95 and Katherine ’98, also graduated and played basketball. To create a legacy and build upon memorial gifts to honor Gary’s memory, Flo established the Gary and Flo Hendricks Family Scholarship fund on December 9, 2019 to benefit Pius X students who play basketball.
