Registration for Ninth Grade at Pius X
Welcome! This webpage contains lots of information about registering at Pius X for freshman year. School counselors are ready to help with questions, and are assigned by alphabet:
Registration Information
The due date for registration for students currently in a Lincoln Catholic grade school is listed below. Counselors will come to your grade school to get all needed papers. Parents and student must sign the Registration Verification Form with all selected courses and. We will check that the Consent Form has been checked and electronically signed, and that you have completed the demographic information in the Forms section in PowerSchool.
If you are a prospective student not currently in a Lincoln Catholic grade school, please call the Counseling Office at 402-488-0931. We will establish an account for you on PowerSchool so that you can register for courses. It will be helpful for you to schedule a meeting with your counselor to discuss Pius X and what we have to offer.
Graduation Requirements

Options in Math
If you are in the Lincoln Catholic grade schools, your current math teacher has recommended what math course(s) is best for you. That course is already on your PowerSchool course request page.
You will take a math placement test in late spring that could change this math course based on the score of the test. If your placement course changes, we will inform you and make the changes.

Differentiated Geometry
If you are NOT in a Lincoln Catholic grade school, you may contact the Pius Counseling Center (402-488-0931 or email carla-kruml@cdolinc.net) to take the math placement test after May 1.
For those wishing to retake the math placement exam, summer dates will be added by May 1.
Options in Science
Biology or Physical Science will be preloaded for freshman based on math placement.
Options in Social Studies
World Geography (one semester) is already in your course selections.
AP Human Geography may be taken in place of World Geography and will also satisfy the social studies elective credit that is typically taken in senior year, and may be taken in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. It is a full-year course.
(AP courses are college-level courses taught in high school followed by a national exam. The score on the exam is what determines if colleges will offer credit for the course.)
Only students who can manage higher-level courses and who are ready to work very hard are advised to take this option. You may take World Geography during 9th grade, and may still take AP Human Geography during 10th, 11th and 12th grade.
IMPORTANT: If you are interested in replacing World Geography (semester course) with World History (year-long course) for freshman year, please email your counselor or call the Counseling Office (402-488-0931) to remove World Geography from you course selections. You will not be able to remove this course by yourself.
Ninth-Grade Electives
ADD UP TO 25 CREDITS to complete your 9th grade schedule.
You will need to make some choices about courses you take. If you have been recommended to take ABLE, we highly recommend you take that course. If you believe you need a study hall one or both semester, it will take up a full-period in the day. Every student automatically has a 20-minute study hall every day during fifth period. Adding another study hall will give you another 45 minutes of study hall time each day.
You must fill all eight periods of the day each semester.
Electives – Credits

- Academic Decathlon-10cr. *if the year-long class is successfully completed.
- Art – The following course will fulfill the Fine Arts graduation requirement: Art Fundamentals-5cr. *Drawing, Painting, Ceramics and Graphic Design may also be taken freshman year if Art Fundamentals is fulfilled semester one.
- Business –The following courses will fulfill the Life Skill credit: Career & Life Management-5cr, Computer Applications-5cr, Accounting I-5cr. *Freshman may also take the following business courses freshman year, but these do not fulfill the Life Skill credit: Web Design I-5cr, Web Design II-5cr, Accounting II-5cr, Intro to Programming-5cr.
- Family/Consumer Science –the following courses will fulfill the Life Skill graduation requirement: Food & Nutrition, Textiles *Culinary Arts may also be taken freshman year if the student has the prerequisite Food & Nutrition first semester.
- Industrial Arts – the following courses will fulfill the Life Skill graduation requirement: Machine Woodworking-10cr, Small Engines-5cr. *Building Construction-10cr, Architectural Drafting-10cr, Engineering Design-10cr. may also be taken freshman year but do NOT fulfill the Life Skill graduation requirement.
- International Language -Spanish I-10cr, French I-10cr, Latin I-10cr.
- Journalism I–One year of journalism can satisfy a one-time semester of English credit-5cr or may be used as an elective for graduation.
- Music–The following will fulfill the Fine Arts graduation requirement: Men’s or Women’s Choir-10cr, Marching Band S1-5cr, Percussion S2-5cr, Orchestra-5cr or 10cr, Concert Band S2-5cr.
- Speech/Drama/Forensics – Speech 5 credits required to graduate. Competitive Speaking can be taken as a freshman-5cr, Regular Speech-can be taken after freshman year-5cr. Most students take Speech sophomore year unless they are interested in Competitive Speaking.
- completed freshman year, it will fulfill the Fine Arts requirement.
- Able-5credits for year-long course. Counselor recommendation only.
- Study Hall (1st or 2nd semester) 0 credits. This is NOT the 20-minute study hall built into 5th period. It is period-long study hall.

Pius X School Day
Students typically arrive between 7:20 and 7:55 a.m. to:
- see teachers for extra help,
- attend club/organization meeting,
- attend daily Mass (begins at 7:20 every school day).
There are eight class periods per day from 8 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. After school, students might:
- attend club/organization meetings;
- rehearse for a play, musical or concert;
- attend sports practice,
- see teachers for extra help.
Fifth Period is longer and includes lunch and study hall:
