Parents: Scott Hartz, Karla Hartz
School(s) attended K-8: North American Martyrs
Favorite place on campus: I love spending time downstairs in the teachers’ lounge because that’s where the robotics club does all of our designing, building, and testing.
Activities at Pius X: Swim Team, FIRST Robotics, Creative Writing Club, National Honors Society
What is/was your favorite class at Pius X, and why? My favorite class is Engineering Design II with Mr. McKee. He was always super funny in the mornings, and he gave us lots of creative freedom with the 3D printers and the new laser engraver.
How has your faith journey evolved during your time at our school? Are there particular experiences or programs that have significantly impacted your spiritual growth? Theology class has helped me learn so much about the Catholic Faith that I never knew before. Fr. Schwenka’s morality class was one of my favorite classes at Pius. He would always crack jokes about how ‘it doesn’t look good to get caught cheating in a morality class.’
What are you most proud of about your time at Pius X? I’m most proud of my time on the swim team, making state and lettering all four years, as well as my contribution to the robotics club and the Iowa Regional competition we went to.
Where are your plans after high school (college, military, job, etc.)? What do you plan to study? I will be pursuing a mechanical engineering degree at UNL.
