Reflections and photos from mission trip to Denver
Ten Pius X students (and 4 students from Hastings St. Cecilia) traveled earlier this month to Denver to work with Christ in the City, a ministry serving the homeless. Students participated in Lunch in the Park where they helped in preparing and serving a meal, and spent time with our friends in the park. They also took part in street ministry, where they walked downtown Denver and approached our friends on the streets and engaged them in conversation. Here are reflections from two students who graduated last month.
Ellie Brox ‘22:
“Sometimes it is easy to convince ourselves that if an idea isn’t big enough to change the world, then we shouldn’t even bother with it. Sometimes it feels like only the grandest of things truly count. But that isn’t true at all. The things that really matter happen in the smallest of moments: walking 16th Street, meeting a state trooper who spoke nothing but the words of Christ, or even sitting in an assisted living gazebo talking to a gentleman about his past, present, and future hopes. They are all huge moments to those who need it the most.”

“The people I met on the streets made a huge impact on my life and I will never forget my friends, Mark, Jake and Robbie. Robbie showed me that you can still live a life of joy when you have nothing. And Mark taught me that just because you have little in life doesn’t mean you have to stop sharing what you do have with others. Jake showed me that one simple conversation will make an impact on people, I met him on Wednesday and my heart melted when he remembered me when I saw him again on Saturday.”
