Students earn high honors in journalism contest
Three Pius X students received top honors at the Nebraska State Journalism Conference. The contest is for students contributing to the student journalism and yearbook departments. Grace Scholtes won Superior for Sports Feature Writing. Lillian Wesely won Excellent in Sports Feature Writing, and Sami Chesley won Excellent in Yearbook Feature Writing. Other honorees include:

Celebrating Dia de los Muertos in Spanish classes
Several of our Spanish classes celebrated Dia de los Muertos as part of their cultural studies. Katie Hayes’ senior students have been busy baking bread for all the other Spanish classes. The skin and how it heals, in Anatomy class
Anatomy & Physiology students are learning all about the integumentary system (the skin) and how it heals. Teacher Jenna Steenson invited Christopher Darst, who works in cardiothoracic surgery as a PA at the Nebraska Heart Hospital. Using Physics to measure 60 seconds
Students in John Cox’s Physics class had to show an inventive way to measure 60 seconds. Working in small groups they displayed their timers in class this week and tested how accurate they were.
‘Rolling Thunder’ wins superior at state contest
The Marching Band refused to yield… The Thunderbolt Marching Band received a Superior Rating at the 2023 NSBA State Marching Contest for the third year in a row and 6th overall. (1987, 2014, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023)!!! Congratulations Rolling Thunder!
