Republican Club gives students place to talk politics

There are many clubs at Pius X related to beliefs and the Republican Club is no exception. The club is held in Room 2223 every Thursday afternoon and lasts for about thirty minutes to an hour.

“Usually, we will introduce new members,” senior leader Patrick Medinger said. “Then we’ll jump into our assignment for next week which could be current events, talking about certain politicians, or just letting people know about a miscellaneous topic.”

During this time, someone is able to share a short speech they constructed about something newsworthy they found on the internet.

Senior Samuel Becker’s short speech was about Senator Ben Sasse possibly retiring by December and finding someone to take his seat.

“We often find that Republicans are not very vocal,” Becker said. “And try to help people know that they’re not alone on the political connections and not be afraid to speak about their beliefs.”

Once the presentations have been shared, everyone becomes engaged in a conversation, discussing the topic, asking and answering questions, or just simply talking, sharing their ideas.

“I think it’s important to know who’s running the government and who’s president,” senior Blake Schlegel said.
