JOB SUMMARY

The Catholic Church has long recognized the value in sports and arts in the development of character and virtue, as well as leading others to appreciate truth, goodness and beauty.  As the modern culture has tended to distort the purpose of both, the Church has spoken more urgently and clearly.  The Athletic & Activities Director (AD) is to have the oversight of, and vision for, all extra-curricular programs for all high school sports including supervision of all personnel in developing and maintaining a viable program. With approval of the Chief Administrative Officer aides in the hiring and releasing of coaches. This position supervises high school coaches, student athletes and high school sporting events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ADMINISTRATION

· Serve as a member of the Administrative Team

· Responsible for annual program budget review and approval

· Compile, verify, and send all NSAA eligibility reports including all hardship requests for eligibility to NSAA

· Remain current on all rule and eligibility changes within NSAA and keep all coaches/sponsors informed

· Maintain records of required trainings and certification for coaches/sponsors

· Maintain file of participant records such as physical examination forms; rosters; eligibility forms; accomplishments and awards

· Plan and provide for all officials for extra-curricular activities

· Manage purchasing and collection of athletic gear, costumes, etc…; schedule practices and competition facilities

SUPERVISION

· Supervise and mentor all head and assistant coaches/sponsors

· Provide first line intervention with coaches/sponsors, student participants, parents, and spectators

· Encourage and instruct athletes, students and fans in good sportsmanship

· Serve as the spokesman and promoter of activities

· Coordinate and assist visiting teams and arrange for needed services

· Coordinate and provide for supervision of all extra-curricular events

STAFFING

· In consultation with the Chief Administrative Officer, make recommendations for the hiring of head coaches/sponsors · Assist head coaches/sponsors in the selection of assistants and volunteers

· Provide orientation and training of coaches/sponsors

· Provide the necessary support for coaches/sponsors to succeed in their programs

PLANNING

· Plan extra-curricular programs for the entire year in relation to NSAA regulations and school calendar · Approve scheduling of extra-curricular events

· Advise and coordinate with middle school athletic director as necessary

· Work with transportation companies to provide for travel needs

· Responsible for budgets, spending for each activity, and allocation of booster club funds for activities’ needs

· Arrange for activity gate attendants, medical personnel and, as needed, police for extra-curricular events

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Ability to work and cooperate with other staff members, parents, and students

· Understand and participate in associations at the local, conference, district, and state level -e.g. NSAA, NCA, NFHS · Understand budgeting

· Arrange and approve activities for the general calendar

· Collect and account for gates, admissions, fees, dues, or other

· Able to effectively utilize necessary software such as Excel, Word, Outlook and scheduling software

· Able to communicate effectively through email and/or written word

· Possesses strong interpersonal verbal communication and presentation skills

· Must be self-motivated and willing to initiate program effectiveness

· Able and willing to lead prayers/devotional exercises offered before/after practices/games/activities

· Must conduct self as a witness to the teachings of the Catholic faith in order to set a good example for youth and the general public

· Must be able to communicate a clear vision for excellence within all extra-curricular programs

CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE

· Must have the credentials required by the State of Nebraska, including an administrative certificate.  A bachelor degree in a related field is recommended

· Relevant prior work experience is desired

· Must be trained in life saving first aid techniques 

· Must complete the safe environment training required by the Diocese of Lincoln

· Must possess a valid driver’s license in order to attend meetings and conferences as appropriate and/or drive students to events

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

· Must be able to stoop, sit, stand, push, pull, and stretch consistent with an office environment · Must be able to drive to various locations as required

· Must be able to use standard office equipment such as computer, telephone, fax machine etc. in conjunction with administrative duties

· Exposure to varying weather conditions when attending outdoor activities.

Pius X currently has about 1,100 students (co-ed) enrolled in our 9-12 Catholic high school. While applicants do not need to be Catholic, we are seeking teachers who have a relationship with Jesus Christ and are willing to share that relationship with students.
