Lincoln Pius X Catholic High School

Students hear heartfelt testimony from Bekka Allick

As the Advent season grows near, Pius X prepares for it with an assembly of prayer. This time, the guest speaker was University of Nebraska-Lincoln volleyball player Bekka Allick.

“What’s keeping you from being pure for Jesus?” asked Allick, believing that modesty is the best policy for high school students as they enter adulthood.

Her testimony focused on her journey as a Christian as she got more acquainted with an understanding of Catholicism. She cited SEEK, an annual Catholic conference hosted by FOCUS, as being a major source of her spiritual development.

“Just continue to surround yourself with good people, they’re really gonna have the biggest impact on you,” Allick said. “More than your parents and sometimes even more than Jesus.”

The testimony was very well received by both students and teachers alike, with them finding it relatable, down-to-earth, and pretty funny at times.

“I thought she was the best speaker we’ve had so far, she kept my attention,” junior Serenity Winfrey said.

“I love how she’s able to just talk to the students on their level,” chaplain Fr. Joseph Bernardo said. “She just kept using their lingo, their terminology, and I like that because hopefully it connects well with them.”

When asked if she had any more advice for the students of Pius X as the Advent season begins, Allick said, “Just continue to find little ways to make time for and follow Him.”
